Our Philosophy

The South End Day Care is committed to providing a program that will meet the needs of the whole child. This encompasses physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs. The centre's  endeavours to provide a warm, secure environment, full of interesting experiences in language, math, science, and creative expression for the children to explore and learn through play. In order to accomplish this goal, a variety of activities are offered including: art activities, socio-dramatic play, block play, puzzles, games, music, water play, sand play, baking, outdoor play, stories and books, films, and trips to such places as libraries, museums, farms, beaches, etc. Weekly program details are posted by the door of each playroom. Time is given for the child to make free choices, and to learn coping and problem-solving skills. There is a balance between child-directed and teacher-directed activities. All activities are appropriate to the child’s developmental level, and consideration is given to individual differences in rate of development. The teachers encourage positive social interaction between children and encourage them to settle their differences without unnecessary interference from adults.

We are very much aware of our responsibilities to provide the best care possible to help your child develop in a positive manner. Our staff has the necessary training and experience to make your child’s participation in day care a truly beneficial experience.

Parents are encouraged through the centre's “open door policy” to come and visit, to give assistance and support when appropriate and to seek advice and help when they need it.
